Bermuda Grass Eradication Program

This week’s milder weather provided a welcome reprieve from the extreme heat experienced over the Fourth of July weekend. However, the changing forecast required us to adjust our Bermuda grass eradication schedule.

With rain expected early in the week, we modified our plans to eliminate any risk of herbicide movement into non-target areas. As a result, no Roundup or Fusilade applications were made on Monday.

On Tuesday, the team shifted focus to bunker areas, where applications of Roundup and Fusilade were made to address Bermuda grass encroachment. By Wednesday, with weather conditions still somewhat uncertain, efforts transitioned to smaller, isolated areas within the fairways using backpack sprayers. Over the course of the day, two crew members applied 55 tanks across approximately 2 acres, totaling 16 man-hours of detailed, targeted application.

Looking ahead, we are scheduled to complete the first full fairway applications on Monday, July 13. This work will include the remaining 6 acres of fairways, along with an additional 2 acres of rough impacted by Bermuda contamination—primarily in areas surrounding bunkers and green complexes included in Phase 2 of the bunker renovation project.

Last week’s application of Pylex and Turflon Ester has proven highly effective in identifying Bermuda grass within the fairways. The treated areas have since turned white, allowing for precise targeting during follow-up applications.

Course Operations

With the course closed for three days this week, the team was able to make significant progress on several detailed maintenance tasks that are often difficult to complete during regular play.

• All bunkers were edged and smoothed, improving both playability and overall presentation.
• Nearly all 1,200 sprinkler heads on the course were edged, with only two fairways remaining.
• Work began on clearing grass and weeds from cracks in the cart paths.
• A new lower range mat was installed at the practice facility, a project that required approximately one and a half days to complete.
