Agronomy Update - August 20, 2026

Bermuda Grass Program

This week, we continued monitoring the areas treated for Bermuda grass contamination, and we are encouraged by the progress so far. The affected spots on the greens are beginning to show clear signs of decline, which tells us the treatment is doing its job.

Because of the 0.75 inches of rain we received on Sunday, course conditions were too wet on Monday to treat a few areas we missed last week. With improved weather in the forecast, we expect to return to those areas this coming Monday.

We also met with the golf course construction project manager to discuss the upcoming fairway sodding project, which is scheduled to begin the week of September 14. As that date gets closer, we will share a more detailed schedule of the work ahead.

Course Operations

Ahead of Sunday's forecasted rain, we made the decision to mow fairways so we could continue lowering them back to their intended height. Any rainfall over 0.25 inches can delay mowing, especially with the turf disruption associated with the Bermuda grass program, so timing that work before the rain was important. On Thursday, we lowered fairway height by another 0.025 inches as part of that gradual transition.

The greens have healed nicely and are growing quickly thanks to the recent rain and humid weather. Our focus this week is on slowing that growth and gradually improving green speed with the use of growth regulators. If weather conditions cooperate, we also expect to begin rolling the greens later this week.

On Wednesday morning, a large tree limb came down in front of the 11th tee. Our crew had it cleaned up by 10:00 a.m., and the area was quickly made safe. This winter, we will have our arborist inspect the tree to evaluate its structural integrity.

The days are also beginning to get a little shorter this time of year - about two minutes less daylight each day - which at least gives us the chance to enjoy some beautiful sunrises over the course.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

Next Monday, we plan to make spot applications of Roundup and Fusilade in a few fairway areas where we noticed skips in coverage. Those areas will be staked or roped off to keep traffic out and allow the treatment to work effectively.
