Agronomy Update – October 2, 2026

Bermuda Grass & Bunker Project

Rain set us back early in the week, but the crew made up the lost ground and then some.

Sodding

Nine truckloads of sod went down this week, 90,000 square feet. That wrapped up holes 4, 7 (all but the spot reserved for the new fairway bunker) and 3, with work now underway on the 11th fairway. We're in the home stretch: holes 11, 12, 15 and 18 are on next week's schedule. Holes 2 and 5 are the deliberate exceptions those get sodded as part of the bunker work on each hole, so the two projects stay in step.

A question I've been asked more than once: what happens to the ground after the sod is cut? The crew solid tine aerifies the disturbed areas, applies compost, fertilizer and soil amendments, then drags the surface smooth. It's a full reset of the soil profile before anything new goes down which is why the fairways that come back are healthier than the ones they replaced.

Bunkers

Joel was on site Monday to walk the fairway bunkers on 8 and 15. The bunker on 8 was approved for drainage and gravel and was completed on Thursday. On 15, he asked for adjustments to both the fairway bunkers and the landing area, which meant relocating and lowering irrigation lines and heads, our crew installed 500 feet of new line Monday and Tuesday to make it happen. Joel returned Friday to approve the 15 fairway bunkers for drainage and to review early work on 12 fairway bunker, where he gave Luis, the lead shaper, direction on the next steps.

Next Tuesday, the construction crew will install erosion and sediment control around the greenside bunkers on 11, 12 and 15.

By the end of next week, 15 fairway bunkers and fairway will be complete.

Course Operations

The staff has been rolling the newly sodded fairways to bring the height down, and next week we'll rent a 2-ton roller to smooth those areas further. Crews also edged and trimmed sod on 4 and 16, and sanded the sod seams on 16.

Joel's Presentation

We had a lot of request for a copy of Joel's presentation which now can be found on the website.
